Dear Boston Station Members:
Apogee raced to Bermuda under command of Ben Morris in the Double Handed class and your Rear Commodore flew down to bring her back to Woods Hole (not double handed!!) While in Bermuda I had the pleasure of congratulating Vice Commodore Brad Willauer and his family crew for their First-In-Class finish. And congratulations to Commodore Binch for not yielding to those who wanted to postpone the Race.
The Buzzards Bay Post and Gulf of Maine Post have both been leading the way in communicating on members' cruising and on past and future events. Please check out the CCA website and follow links from BOS to the Posts. Bob Rosbe will succeed Peter Cassidy as BUZZ Post Captain and Larry Hall has agreed to take the Secretary / Treasurer job. Maggie Salter and Frank Cassidy each have another year in those roles at GMP. Please give them each you support in the fine programs they develop.
The Boston Station Cruise was favored with mostly good weather and excellent organization by Chris Cunningham and his committee of Mark Lenci, Ernest Hamilton and Susi Homer. The kickoff dinner on August 8 was at Susi's lovely home that has hosted many CCA events. Two rum kegs and a wine bar served over a hundred before dinner of salmon and local fare. Nearly thirty boats headed east for a rendezvous in St Andrews. Howie Hodgson BOS threw a grand cocktail party for visiting CCA members where we met many of his local friends. Dinner at The Algonquin was enjoyed on the porch wrapping around the hotel. Weather on the way back west limited the numbers at Roque. See the Fall Gam for a full report by Historian Nick Orem and pictures by Dan Nerney.
We are working hard on determining locations and dates for this season's dinners. The intent is to schedule our Annual Dinner in mid-November or early December and the Winter Dinner at the Union Club in January. We are exploring a North shore venue for the Spring Dinner-possibly the Peabody Essex Museum. Entertainment chair Ann Noble Kiley would appreciate suggestions from members on other interesting locations.
Peter Cassidy will take responsibility for the Sailing Committee this Fall and has plans for 3 days of sailing on Columbus weekend (Oct 8-9-10). Plans call for a gathering Saturday evening in Menemsha (41 21.23N, 70 46.00W). The Rum Keg will be set up and we will have potluck hors d'oeuvres. Sunday's gathering will be in Edgartown (41 23.08N, 70 30.64W) with fenders over the side and/or dinner ashore. More details will be provided later but PLEASE SAVE THE DATES. To express interest in joining the Gam please register here. Peter will communicate more once the weather is known.
Monthly lunches will resume at The Rats Club on October 19 and continue on the third Wednesday of each month until March. Bink Bacon is the contact for Rats and expect to see monthly reminders. IF you are interested in signing up for the October Rats lunch, click here.
We all appreciate the many volunteers that make possible these many social and sailing programs. Please try to help them whenever you can.
